Teacher notes

Purpose and preparation

15 minutes. Use context and a reference source to explore vocabulary.

Read the book aloud first. Have one copy available to revisit words and pictures. Pupil pages are suitable for black-and-white printing.

Suggested responses

Answers depend on the chosen words and edition. Check each copied word and page reference against the pupil's actual book. A good meaning fits the sentence as well as the dictionary.

Support and stretch

Support: Choose one word together and say the answer aloud.

Stretch: Compare two possible meanings and explain which fits the passage.
