Teacher notes Animal outlines
Purpose and preparation
Use crayons or pencils and adult supervision. The outlines are stylised classroom drawings, not anatomy diagrams or the book illustrator's artwork.
Suggested responses
- All four animal types occur in the story.
- Invite a child to choose colours freely and describe a movement; no scientific meaning is assigned to the colour choice.
- Read the corresponding story page together. Accept marks, pointing or a spoken description.
Support and stretch
Read aloud; invite pointing, drawings or dictation. Extend by asking for a page or picture clue.
Teaching links
Suggested England English: discussing reading and explaining ideas. US literacy links apply only to the stated school age group, not automatically to babies. Adapt to the learner; these materials are not an accredited curriculum.
